🌿 Rewired: Where Tech, Equity, and Education Merge

A newsletter from Collaborative Roots LLCIssue #4 | July 29, 2025

Welcome Back Techquity Crew,

Oh the days when summer used to be more than a month. We all need that short break for summer. Well we are back at it!

In our last issue, we referenced philosopher  Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò words that are much needed in our world right now:

"Our ancestors accomplished more, with less, against worse. Stay locked in."

As we end July and start to plan for the return of our teachers and students, I am sure many of you are prepping PD sessions, setting up your classroom, or squeezing in one last iced coffee before the whirlwind begins.

What's Inside

In this issue, we’ll explore:

  • A tech tip use AI intentionally to reduce cognitive load—not increase it

  • A team insight center teacher voice in PD & planning

  • A resource or tools implement tools that actually help—not just add noise

Rewired exists to help you cultivate sustainable and transformative change. Together, we’re building communities that are more collaborative, more connected, and deeply rooted in collectivism.

Tech Tip: AI tools for Educator Planning

Content: There are a ton of Generative AI tools that exist and are created daily. As a teacher, I would feel completely overwhelmed and not sure where to start. Here are some of my top recommendations for tools you can implement immediately. These tools have found success with fellow educators and are responsive to educator feedback.

If your team is using AI this year, start with purpose—not novelty. These tools can save hours of time and increase lesson relevance if used well:

Planning Tools

  • MagicSchool.ai – Tailored for teachers; write standards-aligned lesson plans, IEP goals, rubrics, and scaffolds in seconds. Everything from writing a lesson plan to creating a behavior intervention plan, MagicSchool has been one of the leaders in teacher centered AI tools.

  • Google Gemini – One of the best Large Language Models (LLMs) or educators. Folx at Google for Education have really tailored their Gemini tool for teachers. Below is an example video of how you can prompt with a handout to create a UDL based weekly lesson plan. Click the image above to watch the video!

👥 Team Insight

The best PD doesn’t start with tools. It starts with trust 🤝🏼.

Before jumping into an AI demo or how-to session, carve out time to:

  • Ask teachers what’s causing the most burnout in planning & prep

  • Invite staff to share 1–2 weekly tasks they wish they could streamline

  • Run a “silent gallery walk” of AI use cases and let teachers add sticky notes with ideas or concerns

  • Model psychological safety by saying: “It’s okay not to be ready for all of this. Let’s learn together.”

🎯 This isn’t just about tech. It’s about culture. When teachers feel heard, they’re more likely to adopt tools with intention.
